window. >> the shots came from the stairwell leading to the basement of islam. the 22-year-old armed man was trying to get inside where his 23-year-old girlfriend is a live-in nanny. quickly told her to keep the door locked and stay away from the basement door -- >> we told her to keep the door locked and stay away from the basement door and not to let him in. >> she and the three children she cares for were not harmed. police spoke to the man in the backyard before the open fire. his motives were not clear. >> at the top of the stairwell he did have some sort of handgun in his hands. there was an encounter between he and the police. he was shot. >> police say the armed man called for 911 this morning saying he wanted police to kill him. they were able to track him and his car to the silver spring home. >>it is still not clear how many

officers were involved in the shooting. we're told there are detectives here from the crime unit and internal affairs. john gonzales, abc 7 news. >> police say the suspect had a replica hand gun. the officers involved in the shooting are on paid administrative leave. that is standard procedure in any officer-involved shooting. fairfax county police have made an arrest in a weekend murder. he is charged with murder and death of mark eaves. as the bidders say the men knew each other but are not saying what sparked the investigators are saying the men knew each other but are not saying what sparked the shooting. >> it has been a week since the fairfax teenager disappeared. volunteers and family are searching where his abandoned car was found. last monday, he dropped his brother off at high school and was then seen on fairfax
